The Romer arm is a portable CMM designed for manufacturing industries, such as Automotive, Aerospace and general industry that need to inspect, measure or reverse engineer work pieces. They work by securing the base of the arm to a fixed location. A probe at the end of the arm is moved to the required locations and points are then recorded by pressing the button on the arms handle. The probes position is determined by high quality angle encoders. These points are recorded by the software and used to determine dimension such as length, radii, angles etc. If used with a scanner, thousands of points are recorded per second and a point cloud is formed. This point cloud can then be used to generate a 3D model in the software and directly compared to a CAD model. Romer (also know as Cimcore) invented the measuring arm and maintain their lead in technology with features such as infinite rotation and best thermal stability.

Probing with a Romer measuring arm will offer a high accuracy solution for inspection of parts in particular measurements such as lengths, angles, diameters etc. Pairing the arms with advanced metrology software allows for GD&T information such as flatness, circularity etc.

All Romer arms have infinite rotation. This means that all the joints are able to be rotated continuously without ever locking. This increases user comfort as it enables the user to reach hard to access points that might have otherwise only been reached by moving the entire unit. Carbon Fiber Body
Romer arms contain a carbon fiber body. In addition to the lightweight characteristics, the carbon fiber also provides extreme thermal stability. This means that the arm will not expand or contract due to fluctuation in the surrounding temperatures, therefore providing constant high accuracies.
